I first heard about the library school student blog Hack Library School from an announcement in Dr. Marten's 5023 course about a call for new writers in Winter 2017. I was intrigued by the opportunity and decided to apply to be a student writer for the blog. I was accepted and began writing monthly for Hack Library School.
This experience writing for Hack Library School connected me to the greater library school student community. Further, it pushed me to write about topics I was interested in and make connections to what I was learning in school. My primary series throughout my writing time focused on reviewing books from outside the expected library school curriculum and apply them to library world. This series was inspired by Dr. Martens' book review assignments in 5023 and 5033, as I found great value in analyzing a non-library specific book through a library and information studies lens.
